Developed in close collaboration with world-class riders like Nico Goyard and Pierre Mortefon, the Spark sails mark a new milestone in the evolution of windfoiling.
The Spark R is the ultimate race sail, engineered for pure performance, offering maximum stability, optimal control, and precise power delivery for competitions and speed records.
The Spark X, lighter and more agile, strikes the perfect balance between accessibility and performance, ideal for riders seeking speed and stability without the demands of competition.
Designed to succeed the iconic IRIS X and R mk2, these world champion sails have been completely reimagined after three years of domination on the racing scene.
Discover the 7 revolutionary innovations of the Spark R and Spark X, and step into a new era of windfoil performance and control.
Aspect Ratio & Shape
The Spark R and Spark X windfoil sails feature a higher aspect ratio compared to traditional fin sails. This technical choice enhances aerodynamic efficiency, allowing for smaller sail sizes without sacrificing power, drastically reducing drag while flying.
The area beneath the boom is intentionally larger than on a classic fin sail, optimized for the upright rigging position specific to foiling. This maximizes usable power in the lower section of the sail while improving control.
The overall profile is sleek and refined, designed to minimize drag, especially in tight apparent wind angles. This slender profile ensures smooth glide, improved upwind performance, and more efficient acceleration, meeting the demands of high-performance foiling.
Twist
The twist is carefully engineered to be very progressive, ensuring optimal release above the boom. This setup allows better management of aerodynamic forces while keeping the head of the sail tight enough to prevent flutter in strong winds. The result: smooth handling, precise control at the top of the wind range, and enhanced reactivity and stability throughout.
Head Design
The narrow head of the Spark R and Spark X plays a crucial role in overall rig performance. By reducing tip vortex, it minimizes aerodynamic losses at the top of the sail, improving efficiency. It also helps keep the center of effort low, a key factor for maintaining control in strong winds and preserving foil stability at high speeds.
Luff Sleeve
The mast sleeve on the Spark R and Spark X is built using five carefully selected materials, creating an advanced, high-performance construction. This combination allows controlled flexibility, crucial for absorbing pressure changes and facilitating pumping, while ensuring excellent profile stability. The result is a sail that remains highly responsive and solid, even in the most demanding conditions.
Tack Point
The tack point on the Spark R and Spark X is positioned as low as possible, in line with aerodynamic innovation and performance. This configuration creates a board-sail “plate effect,” reducing turbulence at the mast base and enhancing glide. It also helps lower the center of effort, increasing stability, improving foil control, and optimizing efficiency in powerful conditions.
Battens
Carbon battens are key to the stability of the new Spark sails. Their stiffness maintains the sail’s profile across all sailing phases, even at high speeds or in gusty conditions. This enhanced stability is essential for confident flight, precise control, and maximum speed, clearly reflecting a performance-driven design philosophy.
Sizes Reimagined for Performance
The Spark R, built for racing and top-tier performance, features a size distribution optimized for World Cup-level demands, enabling riders to compete with a reduced quiver while covering a wide range of conditions. Its size range includes:
4.6 m², 5.5 m², 6.4 m², 7.3 m², 8.2 m²
The Spark X, on the other hand, is designed for freeride. It offers increased versatility and easy handling, perfect for passionate riders looking for varied sensations. With sizes ranging from 4.5 m² to 8.2 m², it adapts to individual preferences and conditions, delivering maximum enjoyment without compromising performance.
Spark X sizes: 4.5 m², 5.1 m², 5.9 m², 6.7 m², 7.4 m², 8.2 m²
This new sizing system allows freeriders to build a compact quiver by selecting every other size based on their weight: 4.5 / 5.9 / 7.4 for lighter riders and 5.1 / 6.7 / 8.2 for heavier riders
With this broad range of sizes, the Spark R and Spark X ensure every rider finds the perfect sail, whether for competition or freeride.
