Infinite legacy
Following the outstanding performance of the Infinite, known for its incredible takeoff and aerodynamic stability, the Spark takes things to the next level. Building on the success of its predecessor, Phantom has refined the concept even further, optimizing aerodynamics with a slightly narrower nose and, more importantly, a redesigned hull shape that enhances stability in flight while reducing drag.
Big updates
The hull shape transitions from a sharp chine at the front to smoother curves at the rear, maximizing glide during takeoff. The rocker line is smooth and continuous, avoiding any straight lines to ensure maximum tolerance during touch-downs. This delicate balance eliminates suction effects caused by excessive curvature while preventing tripping from sharp edges during touch-downs.
Additionally, the hull shape raises the rails higher above the water, reducing the risk of hitting the top of the chop, giving the sensation of a longer mast by 5 cm without sacrificing mast stiffness. During jibes, the board allows for more aggressive rail engagement, and if the rail touches, the rocker line along the rail maintains the fluidity of the turn, as though no mistake had been made.
The board has been extended at the rear to optimize the gliding surface and ensure the best possible takeoff performance. The airflow exit points are also optimized to reduce drag.
The deck shape, which perfectly fits the curvature of the foot arch, has been tested over several generations of Phantom boards and remains unchanged in the new Spark
Ultimately, the new Spark raises the bar, improving takeoff, touch-down efficiency, aerodynamics to reduce drag, and stability. The jibe is smoother as well, thanks to an optimized, more forgiving rocker line.
Due to the board’s rocker, the foil box is angled by 1° compared to traditional boards, meaning the foil’s rake measurement can be reduced.
SPARK R80
The smaller sibling of the R 86, the new Spark R 80 is even faster and more stable in stronger winds thanks to a reduced front section that is less affected by gusts. This makes it the ideal board for speed records or long crosswind runs like at the Défi Wind.
Compared to previous boards optimized for the Défi (IRIS R 78 and 71), the aerodynamic improvements are so significant that the extra width is barely noticeable, allowing for a slight increase in target width to make the board more versatile and perform well in a wider range of conditions.
SPARK R86
The most versatile board in the range. Its width has been optimized to perform in both very strong winds with small sails (4.5 and 5.5) and lighter winds with an 8.5 sail. This challenge of creating a single board for all conditions comes from the PWA, and it has been successfully achieved!
It is now comfortable at all angles and across a very wide wind range!
